Eligibility:

Yellow Ball pursue graduate or post-graduate academic studies in Brazil

Terms and Conditions:

Yellow Ball Visa holders are prohibited from holding any paid job in Brazil.

For extended stays (a minimum of 6 months) the same type of visa can be issued to immediate family members. Those are, however, prohibited from engaging in any paid activity in Brazil.

First arrival in Brazil must take place within 90 days from the date the visa was issued.

This visa is good for multiple entries within the visa's duration. If necessary, a visa extension may be issued by the Federal Police in Brazil, if requested at least 30 days prior to the expiration of the authorized stay (special requirements apply).

Whenever the planned stay exceeds 90 days, visitors must register with the Federal Police in Brazil within 30 days from first arrival in the country (together with the passport, you must submit the original visa application form that will be returned to you by the Consulate once the visa is issued).

Visa will be issued on a "laissez-passer" to nationals of the following countries: Bhutan, Central African Republic, and Taiwan.

Brazilian nationals must enter and leave Brazil with their Brazilian passport only.

Procedures:

The Consulate accepts visa submissions by the applicant in person, by a third party, acting on his/her behalf, or by a travel/visa agency in Houston.

If application is submitted through a third party, a copy of the applicant(s) driver's license is requird to be attached to the application form.  Visa processing time is ten business days once all requirements have been met.

Submission to the Consulate of two visa application forms per applicant, properly filled out (first and second pages) and duly signed (parents must sign for those under 18 years old and have their signatures notarized), together with the following documentation:

  • copy of scholarship documentation or proof of financial capability to pay for the stay in Brazil

  • passport with a minimum remaining validity of six months prior to its expiration date, and with at least 2 blank visa pages available for the visa stamp - excluding the pages reserved for Amendments and Endorsements.

  • two recent 2"x 2" passport-type photographs of applicant, showing entire face (must be front view) in white background. Snapshots and computer pictures are not accepted

  • documented proof of enrollment, legalized by a notary public in Brazil, indicating duration of studies at a Brazilian educational institution

  • proof of residence in the consular jurisdiction for the past twelve months

  • as applicable (i.e., if applying for an extended-stay visa to immediate family members), copy of marriage certificate, birth certificate, or other official dependency document

  • as applicable (i.e., if applicant traveled within the last 90 days to any of the following countries: Angola, Bolivia, Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Colombia, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ecuador, French Guiana, Gabon, Ghana, Gambia, Republic of Guinea, Liberia, Nigeria, Peru, Sierra Leone, Sudan, or Venezuela), yellow fever vaccination certificate. Please note that yellow fever vaccination is advisable if applicant's destination in Brazil includes any of the following States: Acre, Amapá, Amazonas, Federal District, Goiás, Maranhão, Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Pará, Rondônia, Roraima, and Tocantins

  • as applicable, polio vaccination certificate (only for children between the ages of 3 months and 6 years)

  • appropriate visa and legalization payments, as applicable

  • recent non-criminal record issued by the local (i.e. applicant's place of residence) Police Department (if applicant is of a criminally liable age).

The requirements listed are not all-inclusive. When processing a visa submission, the Consulate may request additional information/documentation.

All supporting documentation that is not originated in Brazil must be authenticated by the Consulate. Copy of Brazilian supporting documents must be notarized by a Cartório in Brazil. Original Brazilian documents do not require notarization.
