V I S A S

N O T I C E

  • BRAZILIANS AND CHILDREN OF BRAZILIANS: Persons born in Brazil and/or their children, even if born in the US, must apply for a BRAZILIAN PASSPORT to be able to travel to Brazil. These individuals should carry both passports: the American and the Brazilian.
  • BUSINESS TRAVELERS: Please do not send letters (by fax, regular mail or email) to the Consulate. All information, including company letters, should be attached to the applicant’s protocol form and brought to the Consulate together with his/her application and passport.
  • EMERGENCY WORK VISAS: Applicants for emergency work visas should come with all documentation to the Consulate. This Consulate DOES NOT pre-approve or answer requests by email or fax from the company in Brazil. Those letters should be attached to the applicant’s protocol form. All emergency visa requests will be examined and granted when complying with Brazilian regulations, more specifically with CNGI RN-61/04, in 24 hours or more, depending on the case.

THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW BEFORE YOU START YOUR APPLICATION

  • First thing to do is to fill out an application form electronically. The link to the electronic form is available when you click on one of the types of visas below. This is done in order to make you read the instructions carefully before filling out the form. This way, you know exactly how to proceed and which documents you should bring/send to the Consulate.

  • After you fill out the form, you will be requested to print out what we call a "Protocol" form. You should sign it and glue your photo on the appropriate place and bring it to the Consulate together with your passport and other documents which vary depending on the type of visa you are applying for (see list below)

  • To complete the application process, it is necessary to bring to the Consulate all required documentation. This can be done:

    • Please note that we do not accept visa requests by mail. You may only submit your application in person or through an agency.

  • Also, you will have to bring money order(s) for Visa, processing, or handling fees, as applicabe. All money orders should be made to "CONSULATE GENERAL OF BRAZIL".

    • American citizens: there is always a "reciprocity fee" of $130.00 charged for an identical fee charged to Brazilian citizens by U.S. authorities for processing all kinds of visa. The tourist visa is free, so, Americans pay for a Tourist visa only the "reciprocity fee" of $130.00.
    • If you are not an American citizen, you do not have to pay the processing fee of $130.00 but you should pay a fee for all kinds of visa, including Tourist. Please click here to find out how much you should pay for each visa.
    • If you don't come personally to apply for your visa, a "handling fee" of $20.00 is applicable for citizens of all countries.
    • For TOURIST or VITEM-II applicants only: On the day of your visa appointment, you must bring the check-list so to assure your visa application will be accepted.
THIS CONSULATE ACCEPTS ONLY MONEY ORDERS FROM THE US POSTAL SERVICE. WE DO NOT ACCEPT PERSONAL CHECKS, CREDIT CARDS, OR MONEY ORDERS FROM OTHER INSTITUTIONS.
